Joachim Korporal says: My father, Ibeling Korporal, died in july 2020 in the age of 90 years told this story to me: The name has got his origin in the army of King Frederic II of Prussia. In the middle of the 18th century he stopped using this title in his army by prefering the german title "Unteroffizier". But the King offered all the soldiers wearing these title "Korporal" instead for using it as the new surname for them all and their families. That was the explanation of my dad. Our tribe ist located in the northwest area of Lower Saxony, the region ist called "Ostfriesland" (East Frisia). In former times a lot of men of this region have been soldiers in the Prussian army. Specially in the south of this area you can find lots of people wearing the surname till these time.
